Disasters
 |
Brins Mesa Fire - This fire burned 4,317 acres (17 km) on Brins Mesa, Wilson Mountain and in Oak Creek Canyon in June 2006. Fighting the fire cost an estimated $6,400,000. As a resident of Sedona at that time, I want to give a huge "Thank You" to all the amazing firefighters and support staff that fought this beast. You all did an amazing job. |

Grand Canyon - Death in the Canyon - These photographs show a body being removed by helicopter from the Grand Canyon.
Some of the details are small, so for these images only, you can click to see a larger image.
To protect the survivors of this victim, I'm not going to say when this event happened, except to say it happened in 2012.
California Condors, Gymnogyps californianus, are attracted to carrion and are often found near a dead body. There were 5 in the area when I arrived. They are about 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall, with a wingspan of about 9.5 feet (2.9 meters). |

Tornado Damage -
On October 6, 2010 a series of tornadoes hit Flagstaff, Arizona, and the surrounding area. You probably saw the damaged homes on the news. The eight tornadoes rated between EF1 and EF3. One of these tornadoes was on the ground for 30 miles. Some of the damage included:
- Dozens of homes being destroyed or damaged.
- 28 train cars were derailed near Bellemont.
- Highway 17 was closed due to debris from an RV sales lot. 35 RVs and trailers were destroyed; a $600,000 loss.

The Grand Canyon Area
|
The Grand Canyon -
It’s 277 river miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide, and a mile (1.6 km) deep. Now that’s one big hole in the ground.
The Grand Canyon is an amazing natural wonder, and I’m sure that the almost 5,000,000 people a year that visit it agree. Quite a change from the 44,173 people that visited the Canyon in 1919, the year it was made into a National Park. |
Jerome Area
|
Town of Jerome - Jerome started out as a mining town, where tons of gold, silver and copper were mined. When the mines ran out the population dropped until less than 20 people lived in the town, and Jerome was declared a ghost town. Today it's a thriving artist's community, well worth a visit. |
Prescott Area
 |
Granite Dells - The Dells is an amazing area of decomposing granite, balanced boulders and stunning rock formations. There's even supposed to be a treasure of gold dust and nuggets burried by prospectors who were attacked by Indians. |
Sedona Area

Red Rock Crossing |
 |
Red Rocks - Almost 100 films, and many television productions, have been shot partially or entirely in the beautiful Red Rock Country of Sedona. Some of these films include: The Karate Kid (Pat Morita), The Quick and the Dead (Sam Elliott), Nobody's Fool (Rosanna Arquette), Midnight Run (Robert DeNiro), Dead Man (Johnny Depp), Johnny Guitar (Joan Crawford), Broken Arrow (Jimmy Stewart), The Comancheros (John Wayne), Kingdom of the Spiders (William Shatner), Apache (Burt Lancaster), Blood on the Moon (Robert Preston), Vacation (Chevy Chase) and Wild Rovers (Karl Malden). |
